We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

Port Kennedy Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Deputy Principal with exceptional people skills to join our friendly and supportive Administration team. We take pride in fostering a restorative climate and culture using the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model, and we are dedicated to the provision of an inclusive, safe and supportive learning environment for all students. 

The successful applicant should have outstanding communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, and be committed to achieving the best outcomes for each and every one of our students. You will ideally have strong experience leading fine-grained curriculum development, building teacher capacity using evidence informed practices to improve learning outcomes for all students, and be able to think and respond strategically and identify innovative and practical solutions to challenges and opportunities. 

Recent experience in leading school improvement is desirable, to support the school’s current improvement agenda which is reflected in our Business Plan 2023 – 2025.  The successful applicant will ideally possess a deep knowledge of curriculum (Literacy and Numeracy), Explicit Instruction, and experience in providing support to staff in High Impact Teaching approaches from Kindergarten to Year 6. A commitment to working in professional learning teams, with a focus on collaboration, learning based on student needs and continual, rigorous school self-assessment and improvement cycles is desired. Experience in engaging and motivating staff in new and innovative approaches and an understanding of best practice in the Early Years will prove advantageous to the role.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
