Appointment Pool

John Tonkin College Education Support Centre (JTCESC) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated and caring Education Support Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2024.

About the role

Suitable applicants will, with ideally high level knowledge and skills, lead and support the whole school purpose to educate and develop students’ sense of belonging and active engagement within the community and will support the Administration Team. They should also possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and an interest in working with adolescents with special needs They should have excellent understanding of, and be highly effective in managing, student behaviour. 

Knowledge of Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA): Special Educational Needs (SEN) planning and reporting; social and emotional learning programs; Trauma Informed Practice; Positive Behaviour Support; Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Strategies and an application of student behavioural interventions would be considered advantageous. Suitable applicants will ideally have prior experience and knowledge in managing challenging behaviours for students along with supporting other colleagues to develop improved behaviour management skill sets.

Your role may include the following:

  • Case Management of students in the areas of curriculum, attendance, behaviour, and well-being.
  • Managing rosters and timetables.
  • Behaviour shaping and creating Individual Behavioural Support Plans (IBSPs)

JTCESC is Independent Public School located at the Mandurah Education Training (MET) Campus within John Tonkin College (JTC). Our school shares the Peel Campuses of South Metropolitan TAFE (Technical and Further Education) and Murdoch University and delivers a broad range of educational experiences to meet the needs of Year 11 and 12 students with intellectual disabilities.

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
