School Of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking to appoint a culturally responsive and aware Science teacher who is suitably qualified and experienced in teaching Psychology and either Biology or Human Biology.

SIDE offers a range of lower secondary and senior secondary Science subjects. The successful applicant will teach Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Psychology and either ATAR Biology or ATAR Human Biology, as well as lower secondary Science. A strong knowledge of and proven success in teaching this curriculum area at all year levels is highly desirable.

SIDE is looking for a dynamic operator with excellent communication and public relation skills, who will bring classroom energy into our blended environment, inspiring and engaging our students throughout Western Australia and beyond. If you are excited about sharing your passion for Psychology and Science, working collaboratively in a team environment and immersing yourself in the blended teaching and learning space, this could be a role for you!

To be suitable for this role, you will ideally have:

  • excellent classroom practice and a desire to contribute to improving outcomes for students
  • a desire to learn and build on your capacity to deliver blended lessons and your quality teaching and learning practices
  • a proven ability to develop and maintain positive student relationships
  • a deep understanding of curriculum and assessment standards at ATAR level
  • an ability to use data to review and adjust teaching and assessment programs in order to support student outcomes
  • strong communication skills and a desire to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment

SIDE is a recognised leader in blended education in Australia and models exemplary practice in the use of both synchronous (Webex) and asynchronous (Moodle) platforms of instruction. Our practice is both contemporary and constantly evolving, making SIDE an exciting and dynamic place to work.

SIDE has a critical role within the Western Australian education system, supporting system needs and priorities. As a teacher at SIDE, you will have the opportunity to lead the delivery of high-quality programs to suit the varying contexts and needs of our students. All teaching staff are encouraged to participate in our regional visit travel program which allows them to meet and work face-to face with students in all parts of the state.

SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and teaching facilities at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School and Northlake Senior Campus. You may be required to work at any one of these or future venues.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

TRAINING

  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
