Ellenbrook Secondary College (SC) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join their friendly team in the role of Defence Transition Mentor to coordinate the Youth Support Program for the children of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.
The Defence Transition Mentor (DTM) will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing systems that provide a responsive and effective youth support service for students of ADF members and family members. They should maintain and establish professional links between schools and various public and private sector organisations, develop, plan and implement youth work interventions, and provide a supportive link between the student, the family, the schools and other appropriate agencies in the community.
A DTM should feel confident about actively participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences and be able to provide information and consultancy advice as required for both internal and external agencies. The Youth Support Worker DTM undertakes progress assessments on students from ADF families that includes researching current issues and providing written reports outlining these findings. They also provide assistance and support to the School Administration team with regard to day-to-day crisis management as well as assisting teaching staff in the planning and implantation of classroom and school based activities.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Oral, written and interpersonal communication skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
- Well developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Well developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of adolescents who are experiencing difficulties.
- Practical working knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations.
- Understanding of the ADF organisation and the additional challenges that the posting cycle places upon students from an ADF family.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
