Maddington Education Support Centre (MESC) is seeking a dedicated Education Assistant – Special Needs – Lead (EASN), to be a part of our team.
The successful applicant will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and behavioural planning. They will assist all educators to program and deliver self-regulation lessons. Working under limited guidance, they will offer advice and expertise in the format of 1:1 with staff as well as presenting to the whole school in professional learning workshops. Highly desirable qualities include being able to collaborate with colleagues to support student engagement and achievement through social-emotional teaching and learning cycles. The successful applicant should be organised, committed and have a broad range of skills and strategies to meet the needs of our students with diverse special needs.
As the EASN-Lead, you will be coordinating the development of student engagement through planned and explicit approaches to support their self-management and self-regulation skills. This includes involvement in the development, monitoring and review of student behaviour plans, escalation profiles and functions of behaviour analysis tools. Competent use of technology is highly desired for behaviour tracking and inputting data. An exhibited knowledge or use of positive behaviour support, escalation profiling, behaviour management planning, monitoring student progress, or maintenance of student records is highly desirable.
All our staff are highly devoted to special education needs. One of our four values is ‘I empty my Bucket’. This is a program where self-regulation is explicitly taught. It will be highly desirable for the EASN-Lead, to be able to design and develop various programs that cater for all our students' needs throughout the centre, including sensory regulation, sport and fitness.
Maddington ESC demonstrates a calm, warm and caring environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. We enrol Kindergarten to Year 6 students who have a diagnosis of an intellectual and/or physical disability and inclusive of students on the Autism Spectrum.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of education programs and/or behaviour management plans; and ability to identify problems and assist teachers and other Education Assistants in the development of strategies and solutions.
- Well-developed oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, mentor, coach, induct and train other Education Assistants and professional teams, including providing advice and evaluating education programs.
- Well-developed written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school community level in a meaningful way.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate staff rosters and relief to assist in the delivery of effective education programs.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
