The Role and our Branch

The South Metropolitan Education Region Education Office is seeking a dedicated and organised Clerical Officer to join their friendly team.

The South Metropolitan Education Region was formed from the Government’s regionalisation initiative to empower local school communities and give principals and staff a greater say in how regional services are delivered and used. The South Metropolitan Education Region supports the Department of Education’s priorities in Western Australia and commits to delivering, through schools and services, a full and engaging standard of public education, supportive of parents, students and teachers alike.

The South Metropolitan Education Regional Office is located in Beaconsfield, near Fremantle. There are 273 public schools located in the South Metropolitan Education Region. There are approximately 132 000 students enrolled in compulsory schooling within the region. Our site has a staff of around fifty and includes home education, lead school psychologists and behaviour and attendance teams.

The successful applicant will provide general administrative support, including basic research and preparing correspondence, notices and other material for the branch. You will undertake reception duties, including greeting visitors, answering telephone and responding to inline enquiries and requests for information. In addition, you will operate and maintain office equipment, including monitoring and ordering office consumables.

  1. Demonstrated experience in clerical and administrative duties with ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
  2. Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills including the application of customer service principles and practices.
  3. Demonstrated ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  4. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.

    • The Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
    • Training specific to this role required by Department policy,
    • The Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment, and
    • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
