Darling Range Sports College is seeking an innovative and proactive Program Coordinator – Student Services Manager – Senior School.
As the successful applicant, you will assist the leadership and management of student engagement for years 10, 11 and 12 (negotiation possible for year group changes in future planning) while supporting and mentoring a team of Year Coordinators. You will be expected to lead strategies based on data informed practices that effectively promote behavioural support, risk management planning, attendance planning and follow up and strategies for teachers to use when teaching at risk students.
This role will require you to function effectively as a professional member of the school senior leadership team, individually and as part of a wider whole school team which is a large requirement of this role.
Experience in the following will be highly regarded:
- Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) knowledge and experience of supporting students in attainment
- Alternative programs and ability to develop external partnerships for adding value to student pathways
- Thorough working knowledge of all relevant Participation processes
- Thorough working knowledge of all School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements
In the role you will be responsible for the development and leadership of an effective, cohesive team of staff, students, and support personnel to create a positive and productive learning environment. You will ideally promote a culture of high expectations for students, staff and parents, and support this by leading the implementation of relevant school and Department policies. This involves the development of strategies and processes to monitor and improve student learning, engagement, and transitions.
The successful applicant will be confident and skilled in communicating with students, parents, staff and representatives from external agencies to facilitate improved outcomes for students at education risk. A proven record of making a difference in student performance through utilisation of appropriate Classroom Management Strategies, (CMS) and instructional strategies will be highly regarded. Darling Range SC is a Positive Behaviour Support School (PBS). While the applicant would not be leading this, they should play an integral role as a PBS team member.
As a key member of the College leadership team you will provide high level guidance and support to the team of Year Level Coordinators and Allied Health professionals to develop a vision and sense of identity. Our Student Services team consists of numerous staff with teaching and non-teaching backgrounds and as joint leader of this team you will have to understand numerous different awards, roles and responsibilities, as well as have the ability to form partnerships with a range of stakeholders and multi-agency partnerships. The role includes the development of effective procedures to case manage the social and emotional needs of students including those at educational risk.
Darling Range Sports College provides sporting programs in AFL, Athletics, Baseball, Basketball, Netball, Soccer, Swimming, Triathlon and Rugby. Complementing our sporting programs are extensive opportunities to participate in the Academic Challenge and Enrichment Program ‘ACES’, the Music Program, the Vocational Educational Program and the Arts Program.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
