Dianella Heights Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a School Psychologist with strong interpersonal and communication skills to join their team.

The successful applicant will join a community of motivated educators, collaborating closely with staff and members of the Student Services team. As the successful applicant, you will provide specialist psychological assessment, diagnosis, evidence-based intervention as well as consultation at the individual, group, whole school and system level. Services will be provided in the areas of mental health and wellbeing, behaviour support and intervention, learning and motivation, emergency and critical incident management, risk assessment, as well as building staff capacity through professional learning, and supporting parents and caregivers.

The successful applicant will have a high level of written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills. They will also have strong interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across a variety of contexts. The School Psychologist will be responsible for supporting staff and parents to put in place effective strategies that support the mental health and wellbeing, learning, and behaviour of students.

Dianella Heights PS is a government school situated seven kilometres from the CBD of Perth in the suburb of Dianella. The school has a stable and enthusiastic staff and very strong community support with the School Board being the main decision making body. A very active P&C provides ongoing support and improvements to amenities throughout the school.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  1. Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
  2. Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
  3. High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
  4. Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
  5. Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.
