This is a permanent part-time (0.6 FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2023 

Banksia Park Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a fun, engaging, energetic, and enthusiastic Music Teacher.

At Banksia Park PS, we recognise and value student’s academic, physical, social, emotional, and creative skills. We have an outstanding music program incorporating an extensive private instrumental program which currently includes a Junior and Senior Band along with a comprehensive classroom specialist music program which includes Choir. Students in the bands and choir perform regularly at assemblies and venues around the metropolitan area. Music is highly valued and performance opportunities are actively included throughout the year.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, talented and supportive teacher to provide our classroom specialist music program. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, be creative, enthusiastic with sound music skills display, effective teaching experience from Kindergarten to year 6. Excellent behaviour management skills with an ability to differentiate within lessons to accommodate a wide range of student abilities is highly desirable. An ability to foster student engagement in music with the ability to motivate and encourage a positive attitude and active participation is essential.

The successful applicant will promote an enthusiasm for music at all levels, facilitate performance opportunities and work collaboratively with staff and the community. They will be instrumental in the organisation of whole school events such as ANZAC DAY, NAIDOC week, Graduation, and our annual music showcase.

A strong knowledge of the music arts curriculum partnered with energy, a sense of fun and an understanding of the benefits of music and movement is highly desirable.

The Music Teacher at Banksia Park PS will:

  • Lead the school Junior and Senior Choirs
  • Liaise with tutors and manage the Instrumental Music School Services Program (IMSS)
  • Liaise with the Band leader and the Band Program years 4 to 6
  • Coordinate Music related school clubs
  • Support students and staff with School Assemblies and performance projects throughout the year.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
