The Role and our Branch
The Deputy Director General, Schools portfolio develops the overall strategic directions for promoting and developing public schools in Western Australia. We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Consultant to fill the role.

The Office of the Deputy Director General, Schools is involved in system-wide educational projects, initiatives, strategies and reforms being undertaken within the Department, supporting continuous improvement opportunities and effective risk management.
The Principal Consultant – Kaartdijin Project will provide strategic advice and professional support to the Deputy Director General, Schools for Program Kaartdijin.
Program Kaartdijin’s scope is to replace the current School Information System (SIS) with a contemporary product/s that will enable a more effective approach to student administration, school administration, timetabling and finance across all Public Schools in Western Australia.
Although the position does not require a technical expert skill set, you will need a broad system perspective, with the ability to be agile and responsive to the needs of the role and competing priorities. Excellent written skills will also be required, as you will prepare high-level briefing notes, reports, speaking points, research and discussion papers for presentation to senior management and the Minister’s Office. Applicants should have strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work between business areas.

1. Demonstrated highly developed written communication skills, including extensive experience in the preparation of correspondence, reports, Ministerials and briefing notes.

4. Demonstrated highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and experience in developing options, applying strategic thinking to achieve outcomes and implement effective change management strategies.
5. Demonstrated highly developed organisational skills with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on schedule in a demanding environment and under tight timeframes.
6. Demonstrated high-level project and program management skills, including ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
