Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) is seeking an experienced Contemporary Guitar and Bass teacher for the South-west area.
Ideally, applicants will have suitable experience in the following to undertake this specialised Music role:
- High level performance standards in a variety of Contemporary and Jazz styles on guitar and bass.
- Improvisation in a variety of styles including in a soloist capacity.
- Sight reading of treble and bass clef appropriate to each instrument.
- Direction of contemporary ensembles and an ability to include multiple instruments/vocalists in contemporary ensembles larger than the conventional size.
- Assembling and operating PA systems and other equipment associated with ensembles.
Additionally, experience of the following will be highly regarded:
- Writing arrangements for contemporary ensembles that can include woodwind, brass, keyboards and other instruments.
- Playing a simple drum kit including straight and swung quavers; simple electric keyboard parts including organ/synthesizer,and providing simple coaching for vocalists in ensembles including harmony coaching.
We are looking for candidates who adopt a flexible approach to their working day and who will embrace the opportunity to work within a variety of environments. The successful applicant will be required to teach in small groups, a range of students from years 7 – 12 in a variety of schools within the South-West area. As a Contemporary Guitar and Bass teacher, you should be expected to conduct ensembles in some of the schools in which you work. You would be responsible for negotiating your own timetable with the schools in your allocation.

IMSS is a large service provider which works across metropolitan and country primary and secondary schools, providing instrumental instruction to students from Years 3 to 12. In addition to weekly small group instrumental lessons, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment music activities which combine students working collaboratively across year levels and with students from other schools.
In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered, though untrained teachers are still encouraged to apply. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
