About the Kimberley education region
Located in the far north of Western Australia, our Kimberley region’s ancient landscapes are as beautiful and varied as the land is vast. The Kimberley team of more than 16 psychologists, is spread over five locations – Broome, Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek and Kununurra. They're meeting the needs of over 5,354 students across 23 public schools that vary from large urban-style schools to schools in remote Aboriginal communities.
Just 45km from the Northern Territory border, Kununurra is the gateway town to the East Kimberley, home to Lake Argyle, El Questro and the World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park. Adventure is synonymous with Kununurra, home to lakes, rivers, waterfalls, barramundi and the Ord Valley Muster.
About the role
You'll be joining a small team of early career through to very experienced psychologists, working at East Kimberley College and nearby schools.
The school psychologist is responsible for delivering direct psychological services to identified clients, applying psychological skills and knowledge to improve mental health, learning and behavioural outcomes for students in collaboration with school personnel, parents, caregivers and other agencies. They will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs and operate as a member of a collaborative and coordinated regional school psychology team.
The successful applicant will ideally have strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with staff, students, parents and the wider community. They will ideally have a commitment to their own professional growth and development, and the ability to work together with the school administration to develop whole school initiatives to enhance the wellbeing of all members of the school community.

- $83,312 - $92,272 (provisional registration)
- $96,747 - $134,404 (general registration)

Note that additional payments are gross, per annum amounts, and will be adjusted for tenure and work fraction.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- hold or be eligible for provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
