This is a six (6) month fixed term, part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2023.
Are you a dedicated and passionate teacher of Chinese aspiring to contribute to a highly successful Languages program?
Lynwood Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a passionate and motivated Languages (Chinese) teacher who is receptive to change and caters for the learning styles of twenty first century students. In addition, we are seeking a teacher who will engage with students in the Chinese language applying contemporary understandings of best practice around second language acquisition.
The successful applicant will possess an in-depth understanding of the Western Australian Languages Curriculum and contemporary pedagogical practices to support second language learning. Applicants should have knowledge in teaching the Chinese Language, classroom teaching and high-level Chinese speaking, reading, and writing skills. You will ideally work collaboratively in a small team environment, with all members of the school and, with a wider community to provide quality educational experiences through promoting the school’s vision and strategic directions. You will ideally be reflective in assessing the effectiveness of your teaching practice and able to cultivate a safe and accountable learning environment, underpinning our core values. The successful applicant should be highly motivated and committed to creating an effective, engaging, inclusive, and innovative learning environment for all students to achieve their potential.
The successful applicant should possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos, and priorities across the school community. You should build positive relationships with your students and be passionate about creating positive futures for students. You should be performance driven and use evidence based decision-making skills and teaching practices.
In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered, though untrained teachers are still encouraged to apply. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered.
At Lynwood SHS we have a strong commitment to delivering quality learning experiences. Applicants should possess outstanding application of assessment and reporting practices, which include a high level of data analysis skills to monitor the progress of students and classes and differentiate the learning program as needed. Ideally, candidates will have experience in teaching students from non-English speaking backgrounds and have completed CMS (Classroom Management Strategies), IS (Instructional Strategies) and/or EI (Explicit Instruction) training.
Actively supporting the school commitment to EI will be central to the position.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
