Burbridge School is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2024.

Burbridge School is seeking experienced, qualified, and enthusiastic and dedicated professionals to support teachers and key stakeholders in the education of students with special educational needs, from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Suitable applicants will, with teacher direction and limited supervision, assist in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies; implement individual or small group programs or demonstrations and be able to provide valuable feedback to support student learning. They will support students with emotional regulation and social emotional development with positive behaviour support practices and effective use of augmentative and alternative communication systems. They will assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials, and resources, for use in classes, displays and demonstration; and assist the teacher with clean and safe storage of items after classes and activities. Suitable applicants will be required to support with the care and supervision of students in all aspects of the curriculum such as out-of-class activities, swimming/hydrotherapy, school excursions, manual handling, workplace learning, further education opportunities, and recreation.

Suitable applicants will work across classrooms, so flexibility is highly desirable. They will be an active team member within the school promoting independence opportunities and effectively support staff teams to ensure students achieve their individual education program objectives. They will assist with the general health and wellbeing of students, including but not limited to, Epilepsy and seizure management.

Applicants should be highly motivated, energetic, physically fit, and possess the qualities to promote excellence. They will be part of an effective team and support innovative curriculum. They should also ideally show excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative manner in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Applicants should also be committed to self-education and building their knowledge to ensure the delivery of effective programs that extend and value the diversity of all students. Applicants should be willing to actively contribute to whole school initiatives and committees.

Burbridge School is situated 15 km north of Perth in Koondoola.   • Effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
  • Ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  • Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
  • Ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students.

  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within
    6 months of appointment.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
