Appointment Pool

Newton Moore Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Cleaners for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2024.

Newton Moore SHS requires enthusiastic Cleaners to work cooperatively as a member of the team. Under the Cleaner in Charge, suitable applicants will be conscientious, reliable workers, having knowledge of the cleaning processes and cleaning equipment. You will have pride in your work as a member of the team keeping our school environment a clean and hygienic place for our students and staff to enjoy.

Previous experience will be an advantage but not absolutely necessary. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment including operating and safety instructions would be highly advantageous. The ability to interpret Safety Data Sheets would also be desirable. You will also have the ability to use cleaning equipment, including polishers, vacuum cleaners and pressure cleaners, etc.

Suitable applicants will carry out internal cleaning duties, including the maintenance of carpets and hard floor surfaces, toilet cleaning, furniture and fittings, window cleaning, dusting and rubbish removal. They will perform external cleaning duties, including the cleaning of verandahs and covered areas, rubbish removal, cleaning of drinking troughs, window cleaning and removal of cobwebs. They will also complete vacation cleaning duties, including the stripping and sealing of vinyl floors, window cleaning, shampooing of carpets, pressure cleaning of verandahs and undercover areas and other such duties as required by the Cleaner-In-Charge.

Newton Moore SHS is an Independent Public School (IPS) located in Bunbury, a coastal city 175km south of Perth. The school delivers two DOE Approved Specialist Academic Programs: Science Horizons and Engineering Specialist. Newton Moore SHS also provides enrichment through the following programs: Moore Academy of Sport and Health (MASH), Follow the Dream, Clontarf Football Academy, Girls Academy and CALM Cadets.

Eligibility and Training requirements  

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check

And complete the Department’s:

  • Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • Induction program within three months of commencement
  • Online training in manual tasks and hazardous substances within three months of commencement
  • Fundamentals of Cleaning training as soon as practicable
  • Training specific to this role required by Departmental policy and;
  • Training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
