Appointment Pool
Merriwa Education Support Centre (ESC) are seeking to establish a pool for Education Support Teachers appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year and up to end of Term 2, 2024.
Merriwa (ESC) is committed to providing a stimulating environment with high expectations for all students to achieve.
We are looking for suitable applicants who can draw on relevant evidence-based teaching strategies and differentiated learning and assessment approaches to further students’ Personal, Social, Literacy and Numeracy development with a targeted focus on communication skills. Competent use of a range of technologies and experience in cross-curricular planning, aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and Abilities Based Learning Education, Western Australia (ABLEWA) to develop students at their individual level of capability is also desirable.
Suitable applicants will ideally have Special Education qualifications and experience in an education support setting. You should be able to utilise innovative initiatives and work effectively within a dynamic team. Experience working with a variety of age-groups, disability types and the skills to work with students with diverse needs is highly desirable. Knowledge in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), TEACCH, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Positive Behaviour strategies is also highly desirable.
In addition to the above suitable Applicants would be a confident class team leader who seeks collaboration with colleagues’ families and therapists to meet the educational and care needs of the students. Applicants who are passionate about students in an education support environment and who work with others to actively promote student communication, resilience, and independence, are encouraged to apply.
Merriwa ESC has a strong team of educators who work collaboratively to encourage students to become independent learners. An ethos that is supportive of students and their families living with a disability, or learning disorder, is vital. Candidates should have a sound knowledge of how kids learn literacy and numeracy and an understanding of effective, evidence based instructional strategies to realise positive outcomes for students with disabilities.
Merriwa ESC caters for primary aged children with a diverse range of disabilities, intellectual and physical, and aims to provide purposeful and relevant programs that address individual student need. An outcomes focussed curriculum is delivered in a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment to ensure the development of functional life skills while fostering independence and confidence which support the individual towards meaningful participation in their community.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge.
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
