Harrisdale Primary School (PS) is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and highly motivated Deputy Principal to join our team.

We seek a reflective leader with well-developed emotional intelligence who can adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. This leader should be passionate about progressing student achievement, knowledgeable, inherently positive and solutions focussed.

At Harrisdale PS we are developing students with the skills to learn, live and work in the 21st Century.

As Deputy Principal you will ideally have highly developed knowledge of current research and evidence-based practice to lead staff in the contemporary teaching of Literacy, Numeracy, Inquiry and ICT (Information Communication Technology).

The successful applicant will ideally be an excellent educator whilst being driven to excel and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead and engage with individuals at all levels. You should be able to collaborate effectively with others to sustain a professional team culture whereby staff feel supported. You should be motivated and self-driven, able to use your initiative, and work collaboratively or independently.

Working as an effective member of the Executive Team, you will provide educational leadership in the school and community by developing and promoting the school vision and values. You will lead and work collaboratively with staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality curriculum, effective quality teaching, professional learning, leadership development, effective use of resources and positive promotion of Harrisdale PS within our school community and beyond.

The successful applicant should have a clear understanding of the conditions and learning environments required to prepare students for success. They will ideally be a high performer with successful leadership and management experience.

The successful applicant should exhibit the capability and commitment required to continue to develop and sustain conditions for whole school improvement, develop leadership capacity in others and support the growth of instructional leadership across the school. Ideally, you will also have some coaching experience to foster professional growth in others and cultivate successful outcomes-focussed teams that use evidence and data to inform their decision-making.

As Deputy, you should have well developed case management skills to monitor student progress and enhance student engagement and wellbeing, as well as the ability to partner with families, organisations and services to provide or broker support for students and families.

Harrisdale PS is a very large public school, opening in 2016. It has a significant EAL/D (English as a Second Language/Dialect) and multi-cultural community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
