About the role
Exmouth District High School (DHS) is seeking to appoint a highly experienced, strategic leader who is innovative and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young people, as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.
The successful applicant will be motivated by the unique leadership opportunity to continue the establishment and growth of a new, high-performing Student Support Team. Initially consisting of one Student Engagement Officer, Aboriginal Islander Education Officer and School Psychologist in 2021, the Student Support Team now comprises a Program Coordinator, Student Engagement Officer, Aboriginal Islander Education Officer, Youth Worker, School Chaplain and School Psychologist.
As the Program Coordinator – Student Support, you will work collaboratively with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to provide effective leadership and coordination of student support staff and processes in the school, including practical and strategic responses to matters concerning student social-emotional wellbeing and mental health, and monitoring and reporting on students in relation to attendance, behaviour, participation, and engagement.
The successful applicant must demonstrate their understanding of Department policies and relevant legislation and a capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders to implement intervention strategies and monitoring processes to support all students, but particularly Students at Educational Risk.
You will have a leading role in the case management of students in our unique remote and regional K-12 context, through your knowledge of effective intervention, monitoring, and reporting strategies. There is an associated responsibility to establish and manage administrative and operational systems within Student Support, to attract and retain students in our Senior Secondary cohorts, in their chosen pathways.

Exmouth DHS is a proudly Independent Public School with approximately 510 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. We are committed to providing the best possible education for the children of our community and are charged with preparing our students for a diverse range of futures. The successful applicant will join a team of approximately 40 teaching staff and 30 support staff.
Exmouth is a coastal community of situated in the remote Northwest of Western Australia. Located about 1250km north of Perth, 850km north of the large regional city of Geraldton and 550km southwest of the Pilbara mining operations in Karratha, we are surrounded by Cape Range National Park and are the gateway to the unique Ningaloo Reef, recently listed as a World Heritage site.
There is a permanent population of approximately 2,700 people which swells to thousands more during peak tourist periods. Due to the number of tourists visiting Exmouth the town has many amenities which would not normally be expected in a town of its size.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g., Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
