Rossmoyne Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Mainstream for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2024. 

As an Education Assistant – Mainstream it will be highly regarded if you use your excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills to collaborate with teachers, education assistants, parents and carers and other colleagues to create engaging programs for our students. Strong communication skills will also be required to work effectively with individual students and groups of students to meet positive educational outcomes, as well possessing the ability to support the general health and well-being of our students.

Suitable applicants should be friendly and proactive and able to show initiative and have excellent organisational skills in order to effectively support staff and students in a variety of classrooms. Rossmoyne PS is a diverse community with 56% of our students having a language background other than English. As such, an understanding of working with English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) students would be highly regarded. 

Rossmoyne PS has a 1:1 iPad program for students in Years 4 to 6 and all classes in Pre-Primary to Year 3 have access to iPads. As such, experience in using technology to provide engaging learning opportunities for students would be highly regarded.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete the Department’s induction program within 3 months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within 6 months of appointment
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy. 

Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.

Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
