Wagin District High School (DHS) is looking for an inspiring and dedicated leader to join their leadership team as a Deputy Principal.

The Deputy Principal works collaboratively with the Leadership Team and teaching staff. It is desirable for the successful applicant to have had experience in working with staff from Kindergarten to Year 10 using processes that support school improvement. The successful applicant should ideally be able to coordinate and lead improvement processes and engagement strategies across the school.
The Deputy Principal, alongside the leadership team, drives the school’s priorities and direction. The successful applicant should ideally have skills to lead teams of staff with a focus on student learning and be familiar with responding proactively to disengaged, trauma-affected Secondary students. A teaching background in Physical Education, Home Economics or STEM subjects would be desirable but not essential to this role.
A deep knowledge of the Western Australian (WA) curriculum and best practice in teaching will allow the Deputy Principal to lead school improvement alongside teams of educators to ensure students make year-on-year progress. Mentoring early career teachers, demonstrating effective teaching and learning strategies, and providing effective feedback to improve teacher performance will be essential to the role.
The successful applicant should ideally be well-versed in knowing how students learn best, including those who may require extra support as well as academic extension. Knowledge and experience in leading student services is advantageous to assist in the management of processes and resourcing to cater for the needs of all students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
