Halls Creek District High School (DHS) is seeking a highly experienced educator as Associate Principal to join our dedicated Senior Leadership team. The Associate Principal will work closely within the Senior Leadership team to further support the needs of our school community.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Halls Creek District High School in 2023 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $7,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

In collaboration with the Principal, and members of the Senior Leadership team, the Associate Principal will provide strong educational leadership across the school community, with a strong focus on leading teaching and learning, advancing and promoting the school’s vision and values, developing and maintaining strong relationships and partnerships, and fostering a culture of high care and achievement are integral to the role. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to contribute and work effectively as part of a cohesive team.
The successful applicant will contribute Halls Creek District High School’s continual school improvement agenda that is focussed on the priorities identified in the School Business Plan and other target informed school documentation.
Suitably the successful applicant will ideally demonstrate:
- Extensive current knowledge and understanding of the implementation of the Western Australian curriculum.
- High level data analysis skills and proven experience in leading and change.
- Extensive knowledge of current teaching pedagogy and leading teaching and learning.
- Experience in supporting and building the capacity of staff through coaching and mentoring processes.
- Knowledge and effective implementation of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework.
- Knowledge of Students at Educational risk processes inclusive of Disability resourcing.
- Knowledge and implementation of the PBS framework and effective whole school behaviour management processes.
Our School
Located in the Central Kimberley Region between Broome and Kununurra, most students come from the town of Halls Creek and the communities of Mardiwa Loop and Nicholson Block. A few students commute from a number of family communities within 20 km of Halls Creek, Koongie Park Station (20 km) and Lamboo Station (40 km).

Remote Community School

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (for example, Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
