This is a permanent part-time (0.2FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2023 

North Tom Price Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a motivated individual to fill the role of School Attendance Officer and join their friendly team.

The successful applicant will assist school communities with processes that aim to improve student attendance, participation, and engagement, in educational programs. They will provide advice to students, staff and parents/carers in the context of school attendance processes. The successful applicant will assist teachers and the school administration team to identify and address obstacles to school attendance and support the development and implementation of strategies to remove or prevent obstacles affecting attendance.

The successful applicant should possess strong attention to detail and work well within a team environment. You will ideally have strong organisational skills and be able to deliver outcomes while working to deadlines in a sometimes challenging and fast paced environment. They will maintain confidentiality, understanding and reliability in dealing with all persons related to student attendance.

North Tom Price PS is one of two primary schools located at Tom Price in the Pilbara region of WA, approximately 1465km from Perth. The school has attractive grounds which adjoin the local oval and is surrounded by the nearby ranges of the picturesque Hamersley Ranges. The renowned Karijini National Park is a short drive away providing a picturesque recreational area to visit and enjoy.

The school has approximately 300 students from Kindergarten to Year Six. Our students come from all over the world including Australia, New Zealand, Philippines and Thailand. North Tom Price is a wonderful school community as students, staff and parents work together to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students to thrive. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Sound knowledge of current trends and issues related to attendance and education within a local community.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with individuals or small groups of students experiencing attendance related difficulties.
  • Sound research and problem solving skills including the ability to identify appropriate solutions to problems, such as those affecting student attendance.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, particularly in a team environment.

  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
