This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2023
Collie Senior High School is seeking to appoint an energetic and motivated individual to fill the role of Student Support Officer and join their friendly team. At Collie Senior High School our moral purpose is to provide opportunities for all students to develop skills, common knowledge and resilience through high quality teaching to pursue pathways of their choice.
The successful applicant will assist in developing and introducing systems and intervention strategies which provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. They will develop supportive links between the student, the family, the college/school and other appropriate agencies in the community and establish a network of partnerships with other government and non-government agencies.
The successful applicant will actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences within the college/school and be an active member of the Student Services team. They will interact with other agencies as appropriate, including the provision of information and consultancy advice as required. They will undertake research on current issues for young people, to meet the new Behaviour Management Policy, as part of the tiered approach to support.

The school delivers teaching and learning programs to meet the learning needs of a diverse range of lower school students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Senior school students in Years 11 and 12 are also supported to pursue university entry through an Australian Tertiary Achievement Rank (ATAR) or Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities. Non-examinable courses cater for students with identified Education Needs and those requiring support and adjustments so that they can better access the curriculum. This is undertaken in partnership with parents through individual student pathway planning.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within 3 months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within 6 months of appointment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
