John Forrest Secondary College (SC) offers a vibrant and dynamic learning experience for students and is currently undergoing extensive building upgrades to enable the buildings to match the calibre of what occurs inside its classrooms. As the Public Relations Officer you will take primary responsibility for operational support in the implementation of the college’s Media and Marketing Plan. You will assist with the development and production of printed and online materials to support successful marketing and brand management for John Forrest SC and maintain and update the college’s website, software applications and social media, ensuring published content is current, relevant and that associated links are active. In addition, you  will assist with coordinating and promoting college events and activities, such as the college ball, specialist programs events, exhibitions, concerts, ceremonies, transition and orientation events and presentation evenings. This role is also responsible for the design, ordering and distribution of the annual student planner and the college’s school photos.

You will ideally have an interest in social media platforms and experience with Microsoft Publisher and Photoshop, Meta Business Suite and website content management programs. Familiarity with DSR cameras, video editing and the Department of Education’s marketing, media and branding policies would be advantageous

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Sound written communications skills, including the ability to gather and edit material for printed and online publications.
  • Well-developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Initiative and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment to meet conflicting timeframes.
  • Ability to maintain multimedia platforms.

  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within 6 months of appointment
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
