Currambine Primary School (PS) and Craigie Heights Primary School (PS) are seeking a reliable and dedicated Gardener – Handyperson to join our schools in a permanent full-time position.

Two days will be worked at Currambine Primary (0.4FTE) and three days at Craigie Heights Primary School (0.6FTE).

The successful applicant will become part of our inclusive and culturally responsive school community. Applicants with effective communication skills, experience in gardening and handyperson roles are encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant should display effective communication skills, be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff and external stakeholders and ideally be able to work unsupervised, with the ability to identify and recognise work that is required to be completed. You will ideally be well organised, pay attention to detail, have a positive outlook and be a team player.

About the role

As the Gardener - Handyperson you will work to provide gardening, grounds and facility management to ensure a safe and clean school environment. You will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive, clean, and tidy condition, and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including some small -scale turf management. The successful applicant will perform minor repairs and maintenance as requested, as well as other Gardener - Handyperson duties in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines.

  • Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

And complete the Department’s:

  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • induction program within three months of commencement
  • introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
  • training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
