Do you have what it takes to be part of an innovative school community, where you are challenged to create the best learning environment for students?

Cannington Community Education Support Centre (CCESC) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated and hardworking Education Support Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year.

We are looking for highly professional, motivated, collaborative, and innovative Education Support teachers wanting to work in an exciting and supportive school.  Suitable applicants should be reflective teachers with a commitment to continuous professional growth that leads to exemplary teaching practice.

Our school is based around team structures, and we have a distributed leadership model in operation. Our succession planning has resulted in 8 staff moving into school leadership positions over the last 20 years. We have a strong student services team and Workplace Learning (WPL) team who provide a lot of support to our teachers. We employ our own therapists and have contracted an instructional coach.

As a teacher at CCESC, you will be required to embrace our whole school motto of “Learning for Life.”  This reflects our belief that learning occurs throughout life and that our students require a curriculum and support that prepares them with authentic and relevant life skills.  Our school priorities are (CANDO) Curriculum, Aboriginal Education, Networks, Directions, and Organisation – CAN DO.  The acronym also embodies our ethos.

CCESC currently has over 120 students enrolled from years 7-12. Our schools 2019-2023 Business Plan can be found on our school’s website.

Suitable applicants are expected to be committed to, model and, exhibit our school values of Achievement, Independence, and Respect.  We are a positive behaviour and mental health initiative school and require suitable applicants to be able to teach students with specialised learning needs, including a wide range of levels of disability and mental health conditions.

Suitable applicants should be able to manage class teams and liaise with parents, therapists, and outside agencies to improve student outcomes and create safe and supportive learning environments.

The education support teacher will plan, program, and assess using a person-centred approach and an integrated curriculum.  It is desirable that you are familiar with evidenced-based practices such as Applied Behaviour Analysis, Direct Instruction, Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH), as well as the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and information and communication technologies (ICT).

We have high expectations of our students and work in partnership with parents and other stakeholders to provide authentic and relevant programs. Programs include the Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) Courses and Endorsed Programs, Vocational Education and Training (VET) course in Agrifood Operations and middle school programs follow the Western Australian Curriculum.

Vacancies may arise during the life of this pool that require specialist qualifications (for example vacancies within Early Childhood Education). Only applicants, in the pool, possessing the required qualifications will be considered for appointment in these circumstances.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

Applications will be assessed against these domains. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

Applicants currently completing the Department of Education Leap program (formerly known as the Switch program) can apply for vacancies using their current or Leap qualification – even if they have not completed the program at the time of applying. Applicants may be appointed to a vacancy based on the qualification being completed via the Leap program.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
