Governor Stirling Senior High School (SHS) are seeking to establish a pool of enthusiastic, engaging and highly competent English Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year.

Suitable applicants will ideally be student and relationship-focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment. Adopting inclusive and restorative practices, and building positive relationships with students, staff and the community, are important components of the role. The ability to establish and maintain effective communication with parents and caregivers is highly desirable.

In addition, suitable applicants should be self-reflective, promote a positive classroom environment and encourage students to progress to their potential by embedding our values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, Tolerance and Personal Excellence in their classroom practice. Our students enjoy a positive and supportive learning environment where every child is encouraged to become a person of honour and integrity. It is highly desitable that applicants have detailed knowledge and understanding of the Year 7 – 10 Western Australian English Curriculum and appointed staff will be given the opportunity to work across these year groups, according to the school’s needs. Applicants will ideally need to possess the professional knowledge, understanding and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school English curriculum, have proven success working with students of varying abilities, and be proficient at developing resources that meet their educational needs.

We are seeking teachers who can extend and adjust their pedagogy to accommodate individual student needs and maximise progress. This necessitates a strong working knowledge of teaching strategies to support literacy and numeracy skills development. Applicants who have recent experience in planning, delivery and assessing lower school WA English curriculum, ATAR and General courses are strongly encouraged to apply.

Governor Stirling SHS, situated on the banks of the Swan River in Woodbridge, caters for students of varying abilities, and offers the Department of Education Gifted and Talented Academic Program, a range of academic and Vocational Education and Training programs and Approved Specialist Programs in Engineering, Arts Media and AFL Football. Governor Stirling SHS prepares students for life after high school with many options for academic and vocational pathways.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
