Yakamia Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Deputy Principal with the ability to lead the Early Years phase of the school, in conjunction with the leadership team.

The successful applicant will ideally have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to build positive relationships to work effectively with staff, students, parents/carers and the wider community. The Deputy Principal will be an innovative and organised leader with a passion for working with staff and students to enhance learning outcomes for all students.

The successful applicant will possess knowledge and leadership in the Early Years (K-2), and the ability to work across Kindergarten to Year 6 (K-6). They will need to possess excellent interpersonal acumen and display a strong team orientation to lead and collaborate with Professional Learning Teams.

In this role the successful applicant will have the capacity to support staff to implement and embed consistent whole school approaches across teaching and learning.  They will provide strong instructional and curriculum leadership and promote quality teaching and reflective practices to ensure effective teaching and learning for student success.

In collaboration with the school’s executive and the senior leadership team, the Deputy Principal provides leadership in the school and community by leading the school vision and strategic direction. The successful applicant will have the ability to demonstrate a growth mindset and implement effective change management to drive school improvement.

Key components of the role include leading curriculum (K-6), promoting best practice through the implementation of the Quality Teaching Strategy and the ability to monitor student performance through the analysis of data. The successful applicant also requires effective behaviour management skills to support our Positive Behaviour Support Strategy.

As an effective educational leader the successful applicant will be confident in supporting effective teaching and learning using the plan-act-assess cycle, and use a coaching and mentoring approach to build the capacity of staff.

Yakamia Primary School is located in Albany on the south coast of Western Australia. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
