Appointment Pool

Holland Street School (HSS) is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistant (SNEA) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2024.

Without a doubt, a unique and positive place to work!

There is something so truly special about working at our school, and it is all thanks to a supportive working environment, the positive collegial attitude shared by all staff and most of all, the amazing students we get to see thriving in an enriched environment that is centred on meeting their individual needs.  Holland Street School has assisted me in finding my true vocation in life, and I cannot express the gratitude I have for being able to do what I love each day.

Miss Misty, HSS SNEA

The support in place at Holland Street School for both staff and students is not something I have ever experienced in my past 44 years of employment.  The past 2 years working with the HSS family has given my life purposeful meaning and balance

Mr Dave, HSS SNEA

Suitable applicants will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. You will also provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress. The ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students, as well as the ability and willingness to engage with children with challenging behaviours, is highly desirable.

As an Education Assistant you will, under limited supervision and guidance from the Learning Support Team, perform tasks that require discretion and judgement to assist students in achieving their full potential. We strive for an inclusive school environment that caters for students with a diverse range of support needs both academically and socially.

Education Assistants are timetabled to support students and classes across a wide range of curriculum areas and departments within the school. Suitable applicants should therefore possess a high level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with teachers to scaffold the curriculum and provide feedback on Teaching & Learning Adjustments. It is important that applicants have a positive attitude and the ability to anticipate and adapt to change, showing initiative and flexibility to produce the best opportunities for students.

Holland Street School is a standout public school in the Midwest Region providing quality learning experiences for students with intellectual disabilities; physical disabilities; sensory impairments; challenging behaviours; and autism spectrum disorders. We are situated in the heart of Geraldton City and draw our 64 students from the town and surrounding communities.

As a K-12 Education Support School, we specialise in the delivery of educational programs for students with complex educational needs in a supportive and caring environment. With 67 fulltime enrolments, our students are aged between 4 and 18 years old. We are committed to providing a stimulating, inclusive and safe learning environment, which aims to prepare students for a fulfilling future. With small class sizes and a high staff to student ratio, our students enjoy a great degree of individual tuition, support and care.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
  • Ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  • Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
  • Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

Applications will be assessed against these work related requirements (selection criteria) of the position. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
