Appointment Pool

Belmont City College (CC) is seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Coordinators for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2024.

As a Student Support Officer, you will work as part of a dedicated team and will have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our school. Suitable applicants will assist with the implementation of a range of school attendance strategies and administrative processes that ensures a responsive and effective student support service.

Suitable applicants will also provide support for special projects across school teams, as required. Under direction, you should collaborate and conduct discussions with staff, parents/guardians, and the community, to identify student absenteeism, truancy and to collect and provide case information.

Suitable applicants will ideally possess strong organisational and communication skills and be able to deliver outcomes, while working within deadlines, in a challenging and fast paced environment. They should also attend and provide supporting information to multi-disciplinary team meetings, case conferences and other intervention processes.

Belmont CC is a public secondary school located in Belmont, six kilometres east of Perth, Western Australia. The school first opened in 1957, as Belmont Senior High School and following the amalgamation with Kewdale Senior High School in 2020, reopened as Belmont CC.

  • Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Well-developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
  • Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations, and services

  • possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area.
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
