Appointment Pool

Karrinyup Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistants – Special Needs for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up until the end of Term 1, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2024.

As an Education Assistant you will, under limited supervision and guidance from the Learning Support Team, perform tasks that require discretion and judgement to assist students in achieving their full potential. We strive for an inclusive school environment that caters for students with a diverse range of support needs both academically and socially.

Education Assistants are timetabled to support students and classes across a wide range of curriculum areas and departments within the school. Suitable applicants should therefore ideally possess a high level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with teachers to scaffold the curriculum and provide feedback on teaching & learning adjustments. It is important that applicants have a positive attitude and the ability to anticipate and adapt to change, showing initiative and flexibility to produce the best opportunities for students.

Suitable applicants will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and whole school approaches. We use a tiered approach to intervention. Training and background in the delivery of MiniLit, or MultiLit/MacLit intervention programs will be highly regarded. Knowledge of Zones of Regulation, as well as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Programs will be an advantage.

Effective collaboration and cooperation are the basis on which we work together, these qualities are imperative for applicants. Team players, with a growth mindset are encouraged to apply. We have a whole school approach to supporting consistency for our students at risk. Being open to Professional Learning opportunities, as well as a rigorous Performance and Development culture, ensures our non-teaching staff access current best practice knowledge, and are supported in their ongoing professional growth

Karrinyup PS has a current student enrolment from Kindergarten to Year 6 of 560. It is located just 15 minutes from the CBD and situated in close proximity to the largest shopping centre in Perth, as well as Trigg and Scarborough beaches. The school grounds feature large amounts of well shaded areas and well-maintained water-wise native Australian garden beds, which all combine to provide a pleasant outlook and recreational space for not only students, but the community as a whole. The grounds include multi-purpose hard courts, two ovals and specialised playgrounds including a Nature Play area funded by the community.

Our experienced and dedicated teaching staff including specialist teachers and education assistants provide an innovative and engaging curriculum reflecting outcomes of the Australian Curriculum, Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standard Framework. Specialist teachers in Physical Education, Music and Japanese compliment classroom learning. An Instrumental Music Program in flute, brass, guitar and clarinet is also offered to selected children in Years 5 and 6. A large number of our students also benefit from external Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) programs.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
