An exciting opportunity exists to work in a highly supportive and collaborative leaning environment as a part of our Student Support Team.
Exmouth District High School (DHS) is seeking a collaborative Youth Engagement and Support Worker to provide support and direction to our students.
About the Role
We are looking for someone who works effectively as an individual and as a member of a team. The successful applicant will be responsible for the effective delivery of social, recreational, and educational activities designed to engage, educate, and empower youth in managing their mental health, wellbeing and behavioural challenges.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, organised, and compassionate providing a high level of support to a diverse range of students.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, relatable, and ideally has a history of building and maintaining relationships within a school community and with other key stakeholders. You will under direction, participate in crisis management and response duties as required to ensure the best outcomes for young people. You will liaise with external local agencies to support our students.
Our School
Exmouth DHS is a proudly Independent Public School with approximately 480 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. We are committed to providing the best possible education for the children of our community and are charged with preparing our students for a diverse range of futures. Successful applicants would join a team of 35 teaching staff and 25 support staff.
Exmouth is a coastal community situated in the remote Northwest of Western Australia. Located about 1250 km north of Perth, 850 km north of the large regional city of Geraldton and 550 km southwest of the Pilbara mining operations in Karratha, we are surrounded by Cape Range National Park and are the gateway to the unique Ningaloo Reef, recently listed as a World Heritage site. There is a permanent population of approximately 3,500 people which swells to thousands more during peak tourist periods. Due to the number of tourists visiting Exmouth the town has many amenities which would not normally be expected in a town of its size.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements (selection criteria):
- Considerable experience working with individuals or small groups of students who are or may be at risk and implementing strategies to improve educational outcomes.
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Negotiation, mediation and conflict resolutions skills with relevant experience working with students who require support.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team without direct supervision.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by departmental policy.
- Complete the department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
