Halls Head College (HHC) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head of Department – English.
In collaboration with the Principal and members of the Executive and Leadership Teams, the Head of Department – English provides educational leadership in the English Learning Area, across the college. This is done by embracing and aligning all practices to the College Business Plan, and encouraging school staff, volunteers from the community and others, to share ownership of the College’s Mission statement, values and goals. Using effective change management strategies, the successful applicant will lead the English faculty in ensuring all students progress in English and build their General Capability in Literacy, actively working with the broader college community to build collective efficacy around this.
The successful applicant will ideally ensure rigour, relevance and that relationships are prioritised, in order to engage learners, provide more authentic and relevant opportunities and improve outcomes for every student. Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) experience and a proven track record in this area will be well regarded.
HHC is uniquely situated on the 'island' of Halls Head just south of Mandurah. The local intake area is south, close to the Waroona Shire boundary. The contributory primary schools are Glencoe, Halls Head, Falcon, South Halls Head and Ocean Road. The College provides a secondary education for students who live in the rapidly growing coastal strip, south of Mandurah.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
