Cecil Andrews College is seeking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic Literacy Specialist Teacher to join our quality staff team. Our College has a whole-school literacy focus with a Business Plan target to improve student outcomes in National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) and support the completion of our Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) program in Year 11 and 12.
The successful applicant will be required to lead the College Tier 3 literacy intervention programs with a specific focus on low-ability readers. An understanding of the Science of Reading, and research and evidence-based strategies to develop and support low-ability readers is highly advantageous for this role. Training in the Sounds Write Program is desirable. This role is dependent on establishing strong relationships with staff, students, families, and the community; therefore, it is important that the applicant understands the diversity in our school and employs strategies to build trust.
The Literacy Specialist Teacher will be required to lead other staff, provide professional learning and feedback on the literacy strategies used within the school. An ability to mentor and train other staff is a key component of the role and will assist in driving whole-school improvement. The successful applicant should have expertise when it comes to interpreting various data types, as well as the capability to utilise this data for planning and implementing interventions. Furthermore, they need to be able to contribute towards developing comprehensive school literacy improvement plans.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
