Leonora District High School (DHS) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Deputy Principal to join their Leadership team.

About the Role

The successful applicant will support the establishment of the school’s culture, vision, values, and future direction. You will ideally have outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to bring staff together and move in a united direction. You should be willing to assist with the implementation of whole school practices to meet the needs of our students and ensure an environment that promotes success.

The successful applicant will ideally provide instructional leadership and coaching to help drive whole school literacy and numeracy practices; intentional and visible teaching; staff self-reflection and collaboration. Experience with Learning Support Team structures and strong skills in secondary curriculum, school operations, behaviour education and student services/pastoral care are highly desirable.

Experience in the development and use of data tools; data collection and analysis; practical use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in classrooms and across the school is desirable.

Our School

Leonora DHS is a wonderfully unique school that caters for approximately 100 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with an Aboriginal population of approximately 78%.

All our students and our staff embrace a culturally response environment where our students participate in the Two-Way Science program. Our school is a lead School in Two-Way Science where students and staff learn together the western scientific approach along with the approaches that Aboriginal people have been using for centuries.

Leonora is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, located approximately 833 kilometres northeast of Perth, and 237 kilometres north of the city of Kalgoorlie.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
