Appointment Pool
Carine Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of enthusiastic and engaging Student Support Coordinators for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2024.

The Family and Student Support Coordinator role aims to increase the effectiveness of the current Learning Centre Programs by further supporting our students with diagnosed conditions. The family and student support coordinator promotes the holistic wellbeing of students, parents, and staff by building positive relationships and providing social, emotional, and practical support. Through building positive relationships, the family and student support coordinator works with staff and families to provide a supportive link been family and school, and works to identify, assess, and resolve social and emotional difficulties which interfere with attendance, engagement and achievement in school.
The aim of the role is to support students to gain their highest academic achievements by working with students, families, staff, community, and agencies to provide a safe and successful school experience. The primary component of this role will be to work with students with identified mental health conditions and neurodevelopmental differences to collaboratively identify strategies to use in the school environment to improve attendance, productively in class, improve social competence and resilience skills. An important aspect of this role is the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to identify barriers for engagement and implement recommendations to improve learning and wellbeing as well the opportunity to deliver individual or group programs which support the development of skills for students with diverse needs. Suitable applicants will work collaboratively with the Learning Centre Manager and Student Services team to create and development opportunities to improve the outcomes for students.
Suitable applicants will ideally have qualifications in Social or Behavioural Science as a requirement. The traits of excellent time management, ability to work both individually and collaboratively and a willingness to explore new ideas to assist students is strongly desired.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Well-developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations, and services

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
