This is a five (5) year fixed term, full-time position commencing ASAP

To lead this impressive team, we are seeking an experienced and innovative person to take up the role of Director – Communications.

This person will guide and inspire the Communications directorate and lead the team’s commitment to excellence and improvement. All our activities enhance the image and reputation of the Department, promote Western Australian Government initiatives in education and support our priorities for Every student, every classroom, every day. This is what drives us and makes our work meaningful.

As a member of the Corporate Executive, you will provide effective high level strategic communications, marketing, and media advice to enable informed decision-making by the Director General, Minister, Corporate Executive, and other Department officers. As Director you will establish and maintain effective partnerships, networks, and forums with key internal and external stakeholders at state and national levels to ensure that high level consultancy services are provided.

You will use your communication skills to negotiate within the Department and other agencies to advance the Department’s objectives and achieve optimal outcomes and will respond to requests for Ministerial and other Government requirements as appropriate.

Additionally, you will oversee the directorate budgets to ensure expenditure is contained within required parameters and for the provision of adequate resources for operations.               

An executive search may be conducted to supplement the field of candidates, if required.

    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
    • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
