North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre (NEMLDC) is seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2024.
Suitable applicants would be part of the leadership team consisting of Principal, Deputies, Manager Corporate Services and a Level 2 Speech and Language Officer. In collaboration with the principal and members of the administrative team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. We are looking for applicants who are committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. A strong understanding and experience in the development and teaching of oral and written literacy is desirable, as is the ability to work collaboratively in the design and delivery of professional learning. Knowledge of one or more of the following would be considered desirable; English as an additional language or Dialect (EALD), Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Early Childhood Education and Students at Educational Risk (SAER). Individuals who possess excellent interpersonal skills and ideally have proven success in building and maintaining strong professional relationships with staff, students, parents, networks, and the wider school community will be highly regarded.
The NEMLDC successfully meets the individual learning and social needs of students who have been identified as having Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), with specific entry criteria. Our specialised, evidence based, early intervention language programs are planned in collaboration with teachers, speech pathologists and education assistants. In addition to these specialist programs, students participate in and develop relevant skills and knowledge associated with all aspects of the Western Australian Curriculum and Early Years learning Framework. The Centre aims to provide educational leadership, professional networking, a forum for action research and increased parental/community involvement in the education of language disordered children.
The Centre also delivers an Outreach service to mainstream schools across the North East Metropolitan districts and the Wheatbelt region with a focus on building staff capacity to differentiate teaching and learning in the area of language and literacy. One of the roles of the Deputy could be to lead the Outreach team.
The school is across three sites, the main site is co-located at West Morley Primary School, the second site co-located at North Balga Primary School and the third site is co-located at Beechboro Primary School. Applicants may be placed across these sites with regional travel as required, when leading the Outreach team.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
