Newborough Primary School (PS) is seeking a skilful, dedicated and enthusiastic Physical Education (PE) Primary Teacher to join their team.
The successful applicant would be responsible for providing a strong and vibrant PE and Sports program for all year levels from Pre-Primary to Year 6, consistent with the Western Australian Curriculum Health and PE Requirements. This includes a clear cycle of teaching demonstrating quality instructional teaching, assessment and reporting consistent with Departmental and school methodology. The successful applicant will also lead the Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country and Winter Summer Sports; prepare, manage and lead School and Interschool events in consultation with Newborough PS staff and the Ocean Net PE teachers’ group. The school historically participates in various Carnivals and events throughout the year with wonderful support from the school community who greatly value this aspect of schooling for students. Being able to engage local sporting groups and clubs has also been a feature of the schools sporting endeavours encouraging participation after school, on weekends and school holidays.
The successful applicant should also work collaboratively with teachers and administration staff to prepare cost centre budgets and manage organisational tasks, such as planning, communications, arranging transport to and from events, follow excursion policy and procedures, liaise with parents regarding permissions and support. The school values reflective and constructive feedback on future directions and decision making that enhance the PE and Sports program. Newborough PS staff are extremely supportive of the PE program, with several having backgrounds in sports and physical pursuits and a strong willingness to assist at all levels.
The successful applicant will ideally take a lead role in development of Health and PE programs across the school. The school is keen to explore possibilities to develop Health and PE in collaboration with other local schools. The successful applicant should also have excellent interpersonal skills to enable them to work closely with students, our dedicated staff and very supportive parents. A background in Sports and Leisure activities would be advantageous.
Newborough PS has just over 365 students and is located in Karrinyup. The school has a range of older traditional style classrooms, dedicated Music and Art/Science (Building Education Revolution) rooms, new Early Childhood facilities, and a well-resourced and open style Library. The grounds are very spacious with many older trees and open grasslands providing a lovely ambience. The Nature Playground offers great opportunity for physical activity and is very popular during and after school. There is a large AFL (Junior) sized oval and Hazlitt Field (Soccer) pitch as well as two Netball/Basketball courts and a carpeted Undercover area suitable for indoor PE activities.
The school aspires to provide every student with a pathway to a successful future through the school’s Business Plan 2021-2024. Whilst there is an expectation for academic progress, all students enjoy a broad range of learning experiences including the Music program, Physical Education and Japanese language specialities complementing a range of interests and learning styles. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
