Kent Street Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and organised Workplace Learning and Vocational Education and Training Support Officer (WLSO) to become an integral and valued member of our team.
The role of the WLSO is to support the operations of the school’s Workplace Learning/VET (Vocational Education and Training) program, including developing and maintaining program documentation, support material and procedures manual.
The WLSO will assist in the selection and induction of students in the Workplace Learning/VET program and locate appropriate industry placements for them.
The successful applicant will liaise with key stakeholders, including school personnel, Registered Training Organisation’s (RTOs), industry and parents and students, on attendance/behavioural issues or queries regarding the Workplace Learning and VET program.
The WLSO will visit and monitor students on work placement, including checking student logbooks for satisfactory completion and working hours.
The successful applicant will ideally possess strong organisation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work unsupervised, as well as part of a team in a fast paced environment. Flexibility, motivation and experience in providing administrative support would be highly advantageous to this role.
Kent Street SHS is proud to be an Independent Public School located within 5 kilometres of the Perth CBD. We cater for a diverse clientele, some who travel great distances to engage in our Approved Specialist Programs or reside at the Rotary Residential College located on-site. We also work as part of the Curtin Education Community to actively engage our local primary schools in the Victoria Park area, with the ultimate aim that Kent Street SHS becomes their recognised and respected secondary school of choice.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Knowledge and understanding of workplace learning outcomes and contexts with the ability to induct employers, staff and students on workplace learning procedures.
- Experience in developing, implementing, evaluating and reporting on suitable programs for students in acquiring work skills and/or accessing recreational activities.
- Well developed keyboarding and computer skills, including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Sound written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, employers and parents.
- Initiative and sound organisational skills, including the ability to plan and coordinate activities.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- hold or obtain a valid White Card
- hold or obtain a current Western Australian Driver’s licence
- complete the Department’s induction program within 3 months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within 6 months of appointment
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
