This is a permanent part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2023.

Piara Waters Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated School Officer to join their foundation team.

The successful applicant will ideally have a friendly, positive and caring attitude and possess the qualities to promote excellence within our school. You should use initiative and ideally possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work collaboratively with a range of people. You will also ideally have strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the capacity to work under pressure, prioritising tasks in a dynamic workplace.

As a School Officer at our new high school, you should model effective, quality customer and administrative support service delivery to work in collaboration with the administration team, school support staff, our school community and teaching staff. In addition, you will support student-related activities such as assisting within Student Wellbeing and operate a range of software packages, particularly databases and word processing. Additionally, you will create and prepare school materials for print and digital publication to promote the school on a range of platforms. Knowledge of the library management system, Functional Solutions would be desirable. A focus of this role is to utilise your skill set within our 21st century Information Resource Centre.

Adaptability will be desirable as this role will change in context as the school grows. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of processes and systems. 

Piara Waters SHS is situated in the beautifully landscaped suburb of Piara Waters, approximately 25kms south of Perth. The school is surrounded by luscious greenery and will form part of the vibrant, multicultural community of Piara Waters. The school commenced with Year 7 students in 2023 and will add each year to its growing cohort, until it reaches Year 12 in 2028.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements (selection criteria): 

  • Experience in providing effective administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Experience in financial processes and procedures, including the handling of debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and /or preparing financial returns.
  • Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and experience in the application of customer service principles and practices.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.

  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
