Ocean Reef Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint an innovative, inspiring, and strategic Associate Principal to our executive leadership team.

The successful applicant will be to the fore of current research and best practice, ideally with proven skills and abilities in strategic planning and instructional leadership to facilitate improved teacher pedagogy. You should model and promote a culture of self-reflection and improvement, providing coaching and mentoring as you develop professional growth and leadership capacity of others including heads of learning areas. We are seeking an individual who is preferably experienced in leading ‘Teaching and Learning’; improvement, innovation and change management in a Senior High School context.
As Associate Principal, you are a prominent representative of the principal at student and community events aligned to your identified portfolio. You should ideally have excellent communication and public relation skills, building and maintaining collaborative and respectful partnerships across the school and wider community to share ownership of the school vision. You will ideally possess exceptional interpersonal, organisational, and instructional leadership skills as you lead teams to drive school improvement, developing and maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders.
The Associate Principal will have a critical role in the realisation and review of the School Business Plan, through participative decision making, including assisting in developing policy and establishing and maintaining systems. There is an associated responsibility to establish and manage administrative and operational systems in the relevant area of responsibility in order to ensure the effective operation of the school within school and department policy and guidelines. In this role you reflect on school performance through data collection and analysis.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally be committed to making a difference in the lives of young people, promoting student wellbeing and self-efficacy. With the commitment and desire to create and sustain a student centred learning environment, you will lead the Student Services team to strategically meet the learning needs of all students, including students with disabilities.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
