Jarrahdale Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and reliable Gardener – Handyperson to join their friendly team.
Jarrahdale PS has a small but diverse team with a common focus of creating an amazing place for our students to grow and for our school community to visit. Situated in the beautiful, historical, semi-rural town of Jarrahdale and nestled between the State Forest, our location makes the school a beautiful place to work.
The successful applicant will be responsible for presenting our schools grounds in a clean, attractive, and tidy condition, making improvements to ensure a safe and clean school environment. In this role you will ideally possess a strong capacity to complete minor repairs and maintenance jobs in accordance with the department’s policies and guidelines.
In addition to maintaining and presenting the school grounds and gardens, you will provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. You will maintain tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition. As a Gardener – Handyperson, you will provide advice and support to the Manager Corporate Service on school grounds maintenance.
The successful applicant should possess knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials, and chemicals. You should be a hard-working team member, with good communication skills and the ability to use your initiative. You will ideally be able to work independently as well as collaborating as part of our small but mighty team.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
- Experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
And complete the Department’s:
- Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- induction program within three months of commencement
- introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
