The Professional Capability - Statewide Services Division is a highly motivated Principal Education Officer to join the Student Engagement and Wellbeing branch.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and committed educator to work within Statewide Services to transform system strategies and priorities into practical supports for schools to improve teaching and learning.

The role of the Principal Education Officer will be to facilitate the development and implementation of initiatives and priorities to improve achievement and outcomes for students. This includes research, review, development and oversight of professional learning initiatives for schools to strengthen the capability of the profession.
As Principal Education Officer, you will be responsible for leading the facilitation of professional learning to Department of Education staff for Gatekeeper training and Youth Mental Health First Aid training.
- Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention training is for professionals or para-professionals whose roles bring them into regular contact with people at risk of suicide.
- Youth Mental Health First Aid, trains adults how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
Professional Capability drives the ongoing development of our workforce. Its purpose is to build professional capability to improve student achievement by enabling teaching and leadership excellence.

- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and influence change related to teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
- Demonstrated highly developed oral and interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with senior officers, school leaders and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated highly developed written communication skills, including experience in preparing reports, briefings and professional learning resources.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for
- registration to teach in Western Australia
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
