Teachers and school administrators employed at Mullewa District High School in 2023 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $17,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the role
This role provides a unique opportunity to improve learning outcomes for Aboriginal students at Mullewa DHS. The successful applicant will work with a supportive team of colleagues and support staff. Mullewa DHS is a part of the Closing the Gap commonwealth program in partnership with MultiLit. As such you will be supported with implementing Macqlit as a whole school intervention strategy though professional learning and resources. We are a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school and other Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. You will be supported to implement SEL programs that are a school wide strategy.
The Ideal Teacher
We are looking for someone who has an understanding of working with Aboriginal students. You will ideally be willing to implement school-based initiatives such as high impact teaching and use a PBS approach. We are looking for some who is well planned and flexible when the need arises.
The successful applicant will ideally develop positive relationships with students and their families and improve classroom attendance and engagement in learning using the Western Australian curriculum. You will be required to plan, teach and assess students’ learning with a focus on English and Mathematics. You will ideally implement school based social emotional learning programs.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
