The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking a vibrant, innovative, and culturally responsive Design & Technology teacher to join our expanding team. SIDE is currently delivering an exciting program of Design and Technology woodwork and technologies to remote and regional schools using digital web-conferencing technology. The students participate in lessons in the workshop at their school with the support of locally based staff and interact with the SIDE teacher via a video link. We wish to expand our team of Design & Technology teachers to deliver the courses to additional schools.
For this innovative role, we are seeking teachers with excellent pedagogy and classroom practice and a desire to contribute to improving outcomes for students in regional and remote Western Australia. You will ideally have strong communication skills and ability to work within a dynamic team environment, combined with a desire to learn or build on your capacity to deliver online lessons. The evolving nature of the program requires cohesion and collaboration with team members and flexibility in teaching approaches to ensure ongoing program growth and success for students.
The successful applicant should have experience in delivering engaging Design and Technology courses in the woodwork and automotive context. A high level of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) literacy is also highly regarded for this role. The ability to troubleshoot and maintain workshop equipment is highly desirable. The successful applicants should have a strong understanding of workplace safety and the demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and set up a workshop to meet stringent Occupational Health and Safety standards.
SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and additional workshop spaces at Churchlands Senior High School and Northlake Senior Campus. You may be required to work at any one of these or future venues.
This role will involve a travel around Western Australia, including regional and remote locations and overnight stays. A degree of flexibility and the ability to effectively plan and prioritise to balance the requirements of the role will be highly regarded. A Western Australian driver’s license is essential.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
