Alkimos Primary School (PS) is seeking a professional, hardworking and reliable School Psychologist to join their team.
The School Psychologist is responsible for delivering direct psychological services to identified clients, applying psychological skills and knowledge to improve mental health, learning and behavioural outcomes for students in collaboration with school personnel, parents, caregivers and other agencies. You will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs, and operate as a member of a collaborative and coordinated student services team.
The successful applicant will have a good understanding of school systems and effective school and classroom student engagement practices. As the School Psychologist, you will be able to contribute psychological understandings and interventions to the conditions that support student engagement and well-being.
Alkimos PS opened in February 2016 and caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, the school continues to develop a highly engaging and dynamic learning environment, and where building relationships between students and community is key.
Applicants are advised that Alkimos PS has, since 2019, hosted an SLP-ASD, and are expected to be extensively involved in this program, demonstrating a strong understanding of students with ASD and knowledge of the aspirations of the SLP-ASD.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- hold or be eligible for provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
