Teachers and school administrators employed at One Arm Point Remote Community School in 2023 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $5,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the Role
This role will suit someone who is relationship-focused, highly motivated, and passionate about creating exciting, culturally responsive learning experiences to ignite a desire to learn in students.
The Ideal Teacher
The successful applicant should have a passion for remote community teaching and will be required to teach middle school English and Mathematics with the flexibility to teach other learning areas such as Art and or Music across our Kindergarten to Year 12 school.
The successful applicant will work as part of a dedicated remote teaching team and attend weekly curriculum meetings to produce the best possible outcomes for students. The successful applicant will utilise One Arm Point RCS planning documents and policies to structure learning experiences.
The successful applicant will also work with staff to support students’ social and emotional wellbeing through the school’s Protective Behaviours and Positive Behaviour programs. The successful applicant will ideally show their willingness to live and work in a remote community and ability to respect the community culture and rules.
You will ideally be a passionate, motivated, and skilled educator with a focus on citizenship and success.
Our School
One Arm Point RCS is a Level 4 (Kindergarten to Year 12) Department of Education school catering to predominantly Aboriginal students and located in Ardyaloon (One Arm Point) Community, approximately 218 kilometres north of Broome on the Dampier Peninsula in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The school is situated on Bardi Jawi country and is set 2 kilometres back from the beach on a point of land virtually surrounded by the Buccaneer Archipelago and the King Sound. The beautiful clear saltwater, tropical islands and coral reefs play an integral part in local people's daily lives.
One Arm Point RCS is respectful of self, others, and culture, and is committed to developing students who are literate, numerate and resilient lifelong learners. The school aims to help all students reach their full potential, with each one having the tools to make informed, considered decisions and the skills and knowledge to find meaningful employment beyond their school years.

The local Bardi Jawi culture is embedded into the school curriculum in many ways including Bardi language lessons, a fortnightly cultural program, a school and community cultural camp and engagement with local service providers, such as the Bardi Jawi Rangers.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
