Butler College is seeking to appoint a dedicated and highly motivated individual to fill the role of Teacher - Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), for a permanent, full-time appointment beginning at the start of the 2023 school year.
The successful applicant should be student and relationship focused and able to provide engaging, relevant, and meaningful learning experiences. You should be an innovative teacher and be able to work effectively within a dynamic team. This will involve you reflecting and assessing the effectiveness of your teaching practice and cultivating a safe learning environment. The successful applicant will have the ability to utilise evidence based teaching practices and employ a range of assessment and reporting methods. With effective interpersonal skills, you will work closely with students, teachers, and the community to instil the College’s values of Knowledge, Integrity and Respect allowing students to achieve to their full potential.
Suitable applicants will ideally possess a deep knowledge of the Year 7 to 12 HASS curriculum and an outstanding application of assessment and reporting practices, including a high level of data analysis skills to monitor the progress of students and classes. Experience in planning and delivering programs for a range of students will be well regarded. Actively supporting the College’s commitment to its pedagogical framework and ability to differentiate curriculum delivery will be advantageous.
Founded in 2013, we are a public inclusive secondary school for students in Years 7 to 12. Building on a strong foundation of community (at the very heart of our ethos - 'A College that Cares'), our focus on working together and fostering relationships cultivates confidence and resilience in students. Our comprehensive curriculum is delivered by professional, dedicated and highly qualified teachers ensuring students receive an education of the highest standard.
Over the last two years (2020-2021), twelve students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above, the highest being 96.95; outstanding in only five years of graduating Year 12 students. All students who have applied for university in 2022 have achieved a median ATAR of 83.05. Students also achieved top subject awards in Geography and Maritime & Marine Studies.
The College's Debating focus is an ongoing success story. Teams regularly compete in state finals in the WA Debating League; we were the only public school to make the finals across all divisions in 2021. Our teams also compete in the WA British Parliamentary Debating (State Champions in 2021) and the national UN Youth Voice Public Speaking competition (National Champion 2021 and defending the title in 2022).
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
