Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Coordinator – Strings.
The successful applicant will ideally be a motivated, highly skilled and innovative educator to join the Senior Leadership Team. This role is integral in the leadership of the school to drive school improvement. They will be required to participate in decision making processes and actively promote the educational policies and strategies of the Department of Education and the IMSS to instrumental music teachers, school-based administrators, staff and the general community.
The successful applicant will ideally model a culture of self-reflection and improvement providing coaching and mentoring as you promote professional growth and leadership capabilities within teams and in others. You should possess excellent organization, communication and public relation skills that allow you to build and maintain collaborative and respectful partnerships across our school community. The successful applicant will ideally bring to the role a strong sense of passion and motivation in music education through the Strings Learning Area. They should possess a high level of teaching competence in the Arts, Music area of Strings teaching and an understanding of the stylistic requirements of the context. They will ideally possess a knowledge of specific instrumental pedagogy including music literacy, and general curriculum trends in secondary music education.
Central to this position will be the ability to provide educational leadership guided by the IMSS Pedagogical Framework and School Plan. This includes the quality of Strings teaching, administrative supervision, and performance development of string staff. You will also liaise with the Executive on the management of resources for Strings instruction, including suitable staff deployment and resource centre materials.
Instrumental Music School Services enhances student learning in music through the provision of instrumental music tuition in schools and school clusters across WA, offering music as part of their curriculum provision in the Arts learning area.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
